Suppressed listings

Our research shows that listings with complete product information, including images, category (item-type), price per unit (PPU), and titles (parent titles) with fewer than 80 characters improve the shopping experience by making it easier for customers to find, evaluate and purchase products. As a result, we will hide (or suppress) from search and browse non-media listings that do not meet certain standards. This basically means that a customer will not be able to find your listing in a search if your listing is suppressed.

We will suppress listings without a main image in all categories, except Media categories (Books, Music, Video games, and DVD). We will also suppress listings without brand (manufacturer) and product details (bullet points) in all categories, except Media categories (Books, Music, Video games, and DVD). We will also suppress listings without price per unit (unit count and unit count type) in applicable Consumables categories (such as Grocery, Beauty, Health and Personal Care, and Pets).

We will suppress a listing from search and browse until you provide complete and valid product information for that listing. You can still locate a suppressed listing on Amazon by typing its ASIN into the search box. We will also suppress listings without a JAN or UPC for certain categories. For more information, see Overview of category UPC requirements.

These requirements also apply to listings with variations. For example, if a listing has different sizes, its parent SKU and child SKUs for each size must meet the requirements above.

For products with variations like colour or size, this requirement applies to the parent SKU for the main listings and to the child SKU for each colour and size variation.

Fix suppressed listings

To identify and fix suppressed listings, follow these steps:

  1. In your seller account, click Inventory, and then select Manage inventory.
  2. Select Suppressed from the horizontal menu.
Note: "Suppressed" is only visible if you have suppressed listings to improve. If you do not have any suppressed listings, this option will not be visible.
  3. View all suppressed listings on the Fix your products page, or click Attribute to filter by specific type of issue.
  4. There are 2 ways to fix a suppressed listing:
    • Option A: Fix suppressed listings in the Issue(s) to fix column by entering the missing values in the editable cells or selecting missing values from the drop-down list and clicking Save.
    • Option B: Fix suppressed listings that are not fixable in the editable grid (Option A) by clicking Edit and going to the Edit product info page. In Edit product info, the missing product details will be highlighted and you will see informational messages that further detail the issue. For non-image issues, enter the missing value and click Save and Finish. For image issues, follow the guidelines on the Manage images pop-up and then upload valid product images.

Fix suppressed listings in bulk using an Excel file

If you update your listings using inventory files, you can still use Manage inventory to make changes. However, you must also update your inventory files or you may overwrite the changes you submitted through Manage inventory.

To avoid this duplication of work, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Inventory reports. (Under Inventory, select Inventory reports.)
  2. From the Select report type drop-down menu, select Listing quality and suppressed listing report.
  3. Select report format as Excel (new).
  4. Click Request report to download a report.
Note: It can take up to 45 minutes for this report to run.
  5. Click Download once the Listing quality and suppressed listing report is complete.
  6. Open the report and update the Corrected values under the Enhancement opportunities tab and check Accepted values in the Data definition tab. To look specifically for suppressed listings, filter the column Alert name as Suppressed.
  7. Save the report with changes.
  8. Go to Inventory and then Add products via upload.
  9. Click Upload your Inventory tab and scroll down to "Step 2 - Upload file".
  10. Select file type: Listing quality and suppressed listing file.
  11. Click Choose file and browse to your saved Listing quality and suppressed listing report.
  12. Click Upload. It may take up to 24 hours for this report to be updated.
