Add your products in bulk using inventory files

Individual sellers: This feature is available to sellers with Professional selling plans.

If you want to add multiple product listings at the same time, then you can do so using inventory file templates. These templates are tab-delimited text files (.txt) that include all the information to list your products on Amazon.

Benefits of using inventory files for bulk listing

  • Create multiple listings at a time
  • Identify and fix errors in your listings by accessing the Feed Error report. For more details, please go to the Check Processing Reports for errors section below.
  • Update multiple listings at a time

We recommend that you have a basic understanding of data files before attempting to use inventory file templates.

What do I need to do before using inventory files?

  • Please install a spreadsheet program if you do not already have one on your computer, for example Microsoft Excel.
  • Identify the product category for your products and download the appropriate template through the Add Products via Upload page.
  • Request for approval (if necessary) to sell in specific product categories. To know more, go to Categories and Products Requiring Approval.
  • Match your products to the Amazon catalogue. Amazon creates listings for your products based on information that you include in your file in this order.
    1. Match ISBN, UPC or EAN: If your file includes a product identifier (ISBN, UPC or EAN) for any product and a matching identifier exists on Amazon, then we will attempt to find a match for your product.
    2. Match manufacturer or biographical information: If your file does not include ISBN, UPC or EAN identifiers for a particular product, then we will attempt to match based on manufacturer or bibliographic information that you have submitted in your file. An exact match is required to create a listing.
    3. Create new listings: If we cannot find matches to our existing catalogue using product identifiers or manufacturer or biographical information, and if you provide enough data in the upload file, then we will create new product pages for those listings.

Your inventory will then be reflected on these pages to create offerings for customers. If there is insufficient information to match to existing pages or to create new pages, you will receive an error message in the processing report, following your upload. Use this report to diagnose and correct errors in the file you uploaded. When you are ready to upload the edited file, click the Return to upload page link, and re-upload your file.

Tools to create Bulk Listing templates

Custom template

These are customisable templates available per product type, to which you can add groups of additional attributes besides the mandatory attributes specified in the template. You can provide details of multiple product categories in the same template. (Flat Files): Category Specific Templates are inventory files specific to one product category and include attributes necessary to list products relating to only that product category. To learn more, go to Create your inventory file template.

Prepare Your Listings (PYRL)

You can upload any spreadsheet in which you have catalogue details updated for the products that you intend to list on Amazon. The Prepare Your Listings tool maps the headers to our inventory templates and creates products as per the information provided.

Listing Loader

Use this tool to add offers to existing ASINs by providing mandatory product information, such as Product ID, SKU, condition type, price, quantity, and other additional attributes that you intend to add on the product page. To learn more, go to Upload inventory using the Listing Loader

Step-by-step procedure for creating Bulk Listings

Please follow the steps below to add multiple products through bulk listing

Step 1

Create bulk listing

  1. In Seller Central, click the Inventory tab.
  2. Select Add a Product via Upload or Add a Product, and then click I am uploading a file to add multiple products in the search box to start bulk listing.

You can also search the catalogue with product title, barcode, or other identifiers to verify if your products are already listed or sold by other sellers on Amazon.in. (Please refer to Option 1 below).

If you want to add offers to existing products in bulk or create new listings, then please click I am uploading a file to add multiple products to start bulk listing.

Prepare your bulk Excel file with attributes

Prepare Your Listing (PYRL) allows you to submit catalogue data in any format with attributes related to your product but not necessarily in the same format as in the inventory file templates available in Seller Central. Based on your understanding of your products, you can prepare your Excel file in the following ways:

Option 1: If your products are already listed with Amazon, watch this video on adding offers in bulk to existing product pages.

  1. Complete Step 1
  2. Download the Listing Loader template.
  3. Use EAN/UPC/Barcodes of the products listed on Amazon.
  4. Add offer-related details, such as price, quantity and SKU
  5. Upload the file under Upload your Inventory File

Option 2: If your products are not listed with Amazon.

  1. Complete Step 1
  2. Select the product types that you want to list.
  3. Click the Advanced mode to generate a template for the chosen product types.
Note: Click Custom mode if you have limited attributes and want to add specific information only.
  4. Click Generate Template and add additional attribute groups, such as Image and Variation. To learn more about it, please watch this video. You can alternatively use your own product catalogue. To learn more, please watch this video.
  5. Ensure that you have provided all the required attributes for the product which you intend to list in the inventory file or in your product catalogue file. Download a sample product file for reference.

Step 3

Check processing report for errors

In Monitor Upload Status, please check for errors and warnings. If errors occur, then download processing report to troubleshoot issues and re-upload. To learn more, please go to Feed Processing reports.

Things to Remember

  • After successfully uploading your bulk file, you will be able to view all the listings in the Manage Inventory tab.
  • Check the Listing Quality Dashboard periodically to review important recommendations on product information to include in Product Details when listing your products. Some of the benefits of using LQD are increase in product discoverability, reduced customer returns owing to missing attribute information, and an enriched Product Detail Page.
  • Use the same procedure to partially update existing listings. Download a template and add an SKU or ASIN. Complete the attribute(s) column that you want to update or add, and select partial update from the drop-down in the Update/Delete column.
