Basic FAQs for international sellers

How can I register to sell in India?

You can go to the Sell Globally Dashboard to start registration on Amazon in 3 easy steps. You can use the following Registration Guide to help you through the steps.

What details do I need to provide to register as a seller on Amazon.in?

You will need to provide the following information/documents throughout the registration process:

  • Business name and business address
  • Contact details – email and phone number
  • Documents:
    • Business license – with business name and registered business address
    • Valid National Id with Photo Id (Passport/ Voter’s ID/ driver’s License)

What can I sell in India?

Sellers can sell and create listings for all your North American Products and for any new products. You can sell items in the following categories: Apparel, Automotive, Baby Products, Batteries, Beauty, Books, Consumables, Consumer Electronics (including Cameras and Video Games - Consoles), Digital Accessories (including Mobile Accessories, Electronics Accessories and PC Accessories), Groceries, Home, Jewelry, Kitchen, Luggage, Mobile Phones, Movies, Musical Instruments, Office and Stationary, Personal Care Appliances, Personal Computers, Pet Supplies, Software, Shoes and Handbags, Tablets, Toys, Video games (consoles and games) and Watches. Please note that certain categories are restricted and require prior approval before you can start selling.

Is there a monthly subscription fee to sell in India?

No, there is no monthly subscription fee to sell in India. You will only pay when you sell i.e. you will have to pay fees on every item sold on Amazon.

Do I need to partner with an Indian company to sell in India?

No, you can start selling in India directly under the MFN model.

What is the MFN model?

MFN model means Merchant Fulfilment Network, where the seller ships the orders directly from their own homes, businesses or warehouses contracting directly with logistic providers.

What are the charges/ fees for selling on Amazon?

Sellers under MFN model will have to pay a referral fee and closing fee on each item sold on Amazon.

For all products, a percentage of the total sales price that is paid by the buyer (including item price, any shipping or gift-wrap charges charged by the seller) is deducted as a referral fee.

For all products, a fixed amount based on the item price that is paid by the buyer (including item price, any shipping or gift-wrap charges charged by the seller) is deducted as a closing fee.

Do I have to pay GST on orders in India?

No, you do not have to pay GST on orders sold on Amazon. You will have to incur an import tariff of 77.28%.

When will I get paid?

As per Indian Cross Border Transaction Laws we will be disbursing money on daily basis in your Bank Account. The Statement View in your Payments Report will show you how much you will be paid. The payment reports are standardized across Amazon in all marketplaces.

How will I get paid? In what currency?

We will transfer the money in your Bank Account updated in your account settings. Based on the country of your bank account, we will transfer the amount in that particular country’s currency. For example: if you give a Bank Account of US, we will transfer the amount in USD to your bank account.

The SIV for my account failed despite document submission. Who can help me with the reasons for the same?

During SIV, you have to upload two documents –

  • Business license – with business name and registered business address
  • Valid National Id with Photo Id (Passport/ Voter’s ID/ driver’s License)

Please make sure that you have submitted valid and original copies of the above documents.

The SIV of your account may have failed due to the following reasons:

  • If you did not upload the requisite documents. Kindly ensure that you upload legible and clear original documents.
  • If the business name and or business address in your business license do not match with the name and address you registered your account with. Ensure that the name and address in the business license should match with your account details.

If SIV still fails for your account:

  • CN sellers - Our Account Manager team in CN will get in touch with you to help you through the SIV process
  • US sellers – Our team will get in touch with you. Or you can drop a mail to globalsalesindia@amazon.com for support.

Can I re-upload new documents in the SIV process?

You cannot upload new documents on the tool after SIV failure. You can manually share it with us and we will trigger SIV verification basis your new documents.

For CN sellers, our AM team in China will get in touch with you to collect and submit the new SIV documents.

For US sellers, please drop an email to globalsalesindia@amazon.com to submit the new SIV documents.

There is a step of carrier onboarding in the registration process. How do I proceed with it?

In order to sell on Amazon.in you will be required to partner and ship orders through one of Amazon recommended carriers. This is to ensure that seller business is compliant with regulatory norms in India. Sellers are requested to partner with any of the recommended carriers and share a contract id with Amazon in this step.

What is the need to partner with these Amazon recommended carriers?

These carriers are integrated with Amazon system and will help in two ways: (a) clear orders at IN customs in a timely and compliant manner and (b) provide order tracking visibility to the customer.

What are the different complaint carriers and how can I partner with them?

For CN-IN arc, Amazon has 3 recommended carriers:

  • Delhivery – please contact POC – Akash Raha <akash.raha1@delhivery.com> to partner with them
  • Gati – please contact POC - Kumi <kumi@gaticn.com> to partner with them
  • DHL – please contact POC – Roy Ma < R.Ma@dhl.com> to partner with them

For US –IN arc, Amazon recommends sellers to partner with “Ship Global”. Sellers can reach out to Ship Global through POC – Smita [smita@shipglobal.us]
