Easy Ship – Dangerous goods review process

The Dangerous Good team reviews each Easy Ship ASIN if identified as possible dangerous goods and ASINs with customer orders are prioritised.

The identification as to whether a product is a possible dangerous good or not is mainly based on the catalogue information. It is therefore imperative that you provide complete and accurate information right from the listing creation, including complete and detailed product description and bullet points.

If the dangerous goods (DG) information you provide is complete and correct, we will complete the review and classify your product once it is prioritised.

However, if the information you provided is missing, incomplete, inaccurate or otherwise conflicting, your product may be suspended from Easy Ship orders. In such cases, you will need to provide a Safety Data Sheet (Safety data sheet) or an exemption sheet (for batteries and battery-powered products and for products that do not contain harmful chemicals) through the Upload dangerous goods documents tool.

Providing a complete and valid Safety data sheet when you create your Easy Ship listing will help you avoid delays. For more information, refer to Easy Ship – Required dangerous good information and documentation.

Note: If your product is identified as a possible dangerous good, it will not be allowed for Easy Ship fulfilment until the required dangerous good documentation is provided to us. If the product is afterwards confirmed as a regulated dangerous good not allowed for Easy Ship (refer to Easy Ship – Dangerous Good Identification Guide), it will not qualify for Easy Ship orders and you will need to fulfil your orders using third-party carriers.

Frequently asked questions

What are dangerous goods?

Dangerous goods (DG), also called dangerous goods or dangerous goods, are items or substances that could pose a risk to health, safety, property or the environment during handling, transportation or storage because they are flammable, pressurised, corrosive or otherwise harmful. These products are regulated for transportation or storage or both.

To learn more, refer to Easy Ship – Dangerous goods identification guide and Easy Ship – Examples of products that may be regulated as dangerous goods.

What dangerous goods are allowed for sale through Easy Ship?

Aerosols (div. 2.1) and 2.2, Flammable liquids (class 3), Flammable solids (div 4.1), Oxidizers and Organic Peroxides (div 5.1 and 5.2), toxic substances (div 6.1), corrosives (Class 8) and miscellaneous (Class 9) in Limited Quantities are allowed for sale through EasyShip.

Why is my ASIN under dangerous goods review?

Amazon performs regular reviews on products in its catalogue that may be regulated as dangerous goods. These reviews help ensure that shipments meet regulatory requirements and safety standards for buyers and its employees.

If your ASIN is under review, it likely contains a battery, chemicals or other substances that may make your product subject to transportation or storage regulations. More information often is needed for Amazon to complete classification of your product.

Products also might be flagged for review when changes are made to the detail page that do not align with information previously submitted.

Some products regulated as dangerous goods may surprise you. To learn more, refer to Easy Ship – Dangerous goods identification guide and Easy Ship – Examples of products that may be regulated as dangerous goods.

What should I do if my product is under dangerous goods review?

The Dangerous Good team reviews each Easy Ship ASIN if identified as possible dangerous goods and Easy Ship ASINs with customer orders are prioritised. To ensure the review process is efficient and classification can be applied, provide a manufacturer Safety Data Sheet (Safety data sheet) or an exemption sheet through the Upload dangerous good documents page (refer to the table below for common problems with Safety data sheet).

How do I submit an Safety data sheet or an exemption sheet?

You can upload an Safety data sheet or an exemption sheet on the Upload dangerous goods documents page. For more information, refer to Introduction to Safety Data Sheets and Six rules for submitting Safety Data Sheets videos.

I have already uploaded an Safety data sheet or an exemption sheet. Why is my ASIN still under review?

Each new document upload will be reviewed within 4 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). If the 4 business days period has passed and the ASIN is still under review, it is likely that your Safety data sheet or exemption sheet was rejected. Review Easy Ship – Required dangerous good information and documentation and check your Safety data sheet for these common mistakes:

Safety Data Sheet (Safety data sheet) common mistakes
1 The product name or brand on the Safety data sheet does not exactly match the product name or brand on the detail page.
2 Information in the hazard identification section and the transportation section conflicts. For example, the hazard identification sections states the product is flammable but the transportation section does not.
3 The Safety data sheet does not contain all 16 mandatory sections.
4 The product’s flash point is below 140 degrees Fahrenheit but the product is declared as not regulated, instead of flammable, in the transportation section.
5 The Safety data sheet is either not dated or is over 5 years old.
6 The seller uploaded an invalid document instead of an Safety data sheet, such as a test report or certification sheet.

My product does not contain a battery. Why is the ASIN under review?

Your ASIN may be under review because:

  • Your product needs or may need a battery to function and detailed battery information was not provided when you created the ASIN or the detail page. Products that need to be powered and lack detailed power source information may also be flagged for dangerous good review.
  • Batteries are mentioned on the product detail page or in buyer reviews and the product was flagged for dangerous good review.

In this case, complete and upload a battery exemption sheet.

  • Your product may contain/be sold with other possible hazardous items (e.g. screen cleaner, aerosol) and the product was flagged for dangerous good review.

In this case, procure yourself with and upload a Safety Data Sheet.

I uploaded the required dangerous goods documentation. What now?

The document review takes 4 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). For this, we recommend you use the Upload dangerous goods documents tool to provide Safety data Sheet or exemption sheets to Amazon. If you choose to provide your documents by contacting Seller Support, the document review will take minimum 7 business days.

What notifications will I receive during the review process?

You will receive an email notification for all dangerous good classification changes impacting your listings – for example, from non-dangerous good to dangerous good. Additionally, if your ASIN could not be classified due to missing, incomplete, inaccurate or otherwise conflicting information, you will receive an email outlining the next steps you need to take to correct the issue.

I disagree with how my ASIN was classified. What should I do?

If the dangerous goods review for your product has been completed and you disagree with the results, you can upload a new Safety data Sheet or exemption sheet supporting your claim through the Upload dangerous goods documents page.
