Amazon VAT on Sales Fees

Hi Guys,

We noticed recently that Amazon are now charging VAT on fulfilment fees, digital service fees and commission per order (see attached example).

We queried Amazon about this and this was their response is below. I'm trying to find out where I can obtain a report that shows all of these charges so that we are able to submit and claim them back.

I've asked Amazon support a few times and they keep pointing me to VAT Reports which only show the VAT charged on the product we sell to the customer.

What we need is a report showing all of these charges that Amazon is charging our business that contain VAT.

Any help would be appreciated

Amazon's Response

Effective August 1, 2024, Selling on Amazon, Fulfillment by Amazon, and all other services previously supplied by Amazon Services Europe S.à r.l. (ASE) will be supplied by Amazon EU S.à r.l. (AEU).

Due to this change, for selling accounts with business established in countries in which AEU has a branch (UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, and Sweden), you will be invoiced by your local AEU branch from August 1, 2024.

As a result, local VAT rules will be applied to Amazon fees, and VAT will be charged on your Amazon fees.

Note: This is an universal change that is applied to all sellers irrespective of VAT registered/unregistered status or previous exempt status.

You will be able to recover this VAT through your normal VAT return process. Please contact your tax advisor for more information on recovering VAT as per your country of establishment's local regulation.
