How to cancel an order that the buyer requested to and was allready confirmed
" The buyer has requested that this order be canceled. Canceling this order will not affect your cancellation rate metric. " - The shiping label was printed, so shipping was confirmed.
I never shipped the product and refunded the customer as I was advised to do. How do I cancel the order now? The Amazon support team is unable to do it, and neither am I or the customer. Is this a prank or just bad customer service?

At this point, you cannot cancel it; but if not shipped, you can issue a refund and request a refund of the label (which will take a month+ to receive the credit). And of course, don't ship the item; remember to check that the inventory showing is correct, as it often won't automatically adjust for such a situation.
If it's already shipped, just tell the customer to refuse the shipment; you'll be out the shipping cost, but it's the best you can do (yeah, it's not fair; but the way it is).

You cannot cancel a confirmed order. The message from Amazon was just them passing along a buyer phone call message. Your reply to that message will go to the buyer, and you should respond and let them know that it is not possible to cancel a confirmed order, but that they have been refunded.
