How Do I Change Generic Brand Name to My Brand?

I am a handmade seller, and I am confused about how to change the brand from GENERIC to my store name (Transit Design). My listings have been up for several years. Is there a brand name waiver or something for handmade sellers? I need guidance. I am finding conflicting information.

I think they used to do a brand waiver for Handmade but now Amazon won't let you . You have to register your brand. In order to do that you have to start the trademark process with the US Patent and Trademark office.

For those that do not wish to do this, we are considered generic. Recently they changed the generic to say Handmade. On your listing, instead of your name it says "Visit the Handmade Store" in the location where the artisans name used to be. If someone clicks on this, it only directs the potential buyer to a bunch of unrelated listings. But, if a seller's name is in the same spot, under the title and someone clicks on it, it will direct them to the other items a seller has to offer.

If this matters to you, be prepared to invest between $500 or more to register for a trademark. The good news is you can do this yourself online. It does not appear to be to hard to do. The USPTO site online seems to give good information to help you step-by-step. Make sure when you google the info, go only to the official USPTO site. There are many sites that will "help" you for additional fees but I would try to avoid those sites.

Hi @Transit_Design,

Thanks for the post.

@lastade is correct, Amazon discontinued the brand waiver for handmade sometime ago.

To enroll a brand, you will need to provide the following information: Your brand name that has an active registered or pending trademark; the trademark for your brand must appear on your products or packaging and you must provide images that depict this.

Until you have enrolled in Brand Registry, you will have to list your products as generic. Once you have a trademark and enroll with Brand Registry, you can relist your products under your own brand name.

Kindly note that we ask sellers to create new ASINs to "re-brand. You will not be able to change from "generic" to your brand name. Please see the help page and look at the details under Policies for editing detail pages.

Best regards and have a good weekend.
