How to create a new ASIN
by Seller_pcsb5w54JugEA

One of the first tasks any Amazon seller faces is creating a new ASIN. Whether you’re a brand new seller or a seasoned veteran, we hope you’ll find this overview of how to create a new ASIN helpful.

Back to basics: what’s an ASIN?

ASIN is an acronym that stands for “Amazon Standard Identification Number.” Simply put, an ASIN is a unique identifier for a single item in Amazon’s product catalog.

There are two ways create an ASIN on Amazon. You can either...

  • Option 1: Create an ASIN to match an existing product, or
  • Option 2: Create an ASIN that’s net-new to Amazon.

Option 1. How to create an ASIN that already exists on Amazon

To create an ASIN that matches to an existing product listing, first be sure to have the Offer Details information available—including the product's condition, price, quantity, shipping options. Then follow the steps below:

  1. Select Add a Product from the Manage Inventory page.
  2. Search for the product you want to sell in the “Find your product in Amazon's catalogue using a few words.” section. Note: Results are more accurate if you search for a product identifier such as a UPC, EAN, JAN, or an ISBN.
  3. Locate the product you want to sell, and then click “Show variations” (if applicable).
  4. Select a condition.
  5. Select “Sell this Product.”
  6. Enter your offer details in the provided data fields, and then select “Save.” Note: Required fields are marked with an asterisk.

Note: This option is not available to Amazon Handmade sellers

Option 2: How to create an ASIN for a new-to-Amazon product

To create an ASIN that’s a new product listing, you will list a new product and Amazon will create a new product detail page. Before you get started, be sure to have the product identifier, offer details, product details and keywords, and search terms information. Once you follow the steps below, your offer will be visible to buyers within 15 minutes.

  1. Select Add a Product from the Manage Inventory page.
  2. Select either “Product IDs" or "Blank forum" and enter the information.
  3. Next, choose the "Create new products".
  4. Enter the required information within the “Vital Info” and “Offer” tabs.
  5. Select “Save” to complete the listing process. You can edit the information for your product listings anytime.

Tips of the trade

ASIN limits: New sellers have a limit on the number of listings (offers and ASINs) they can create in a given week. Once you increase your sales, your capacity will also increase. So you’ll want to be strategic in how you prioritize your listings. If you’re a veteran seller with a high number of new listings, your listings will be evaluated and your ability to create new listing may be temporary restricted.

Duplicate ASINs: Before creating a new ASIN, always match your products to existing products in Amazon’s catalog. Failure to do so could result in you creating a new ASIN when the product already exist in Amazon’s catalog. Creating duplicate ASINs could impact your ability to sell on Amazon, as your selling privileges may be temporarily suspended or permanently removed. Matching the product helps create a better customer service experience for buyers and provides the seller with the opportunity to take full advantage of the buyer interest and traffic it generates for your product.

We want to hear from you

Have you got any nuggets of advice around ASIN creation you’d like to share? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Quick Tip: Increase Sales
by Seller_pcsb5w54JugEA

Hi sellers!

We have noticed many discussions regarding slow sales. Here are some areas you can focus on to help increase your sales.

  • Amazon Selling Coach: offers personalized recommendations to help you increase your success on Amazon (this feature is available to seller with Professional Selling Plans).
  • Pricing and shipping: Are your offers priced competitively against comparable products? Can you offer shipping incentives? Research the competition as you develop a compelling price point. Include shipping costs in your research. Buyers often see shipping costs as a primary influence when deciding to make an online purchase.
  • Prime fulfilment: When you enable Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) for your products, you can leverage Amazon's fulfilment networks and expertise to make your offers eligible for Prime and free shipping.
  • Promotions: When shopping online, buyers look at the whole range of promotional offerings-price or percentages off the price, free shipping, and so on. Free shipping is often why buyers come back to Amazon.
  • Advertising: Sponsored Products is an advertising service that helps you promote the products you list on Amazon. You choose which products you want to advertise, assign keywords to those products, and enter a cost-per-click bid. When an Amazon shopper searches for one of your keywords, your ad is eligible for display alongside the search results. You pay a fee for this service only when an Amazon shopper clicks your ad, at which point the shopper is taken to the detail page where your offer is listed.
  • Great product details and descriptions: As you describe your product, include key features with benefits listed in your bullet points.
  • Clear, high-quality images: High resolution images with clear details stimulate a buyers' imagination and inspire them to buy your product. In addition, provide as many different images as possible.

To help you compare revenue estimates for products based on the fulfilment channel used you can use the Revenue Calculator (also referred to as Kitna Milega Calculator). Check out this Quick Tip post for more information: FBA Revenue Calculator.

Quick Tip: Order reports
by Seller_pcsb5w54JugEA

What is an order report?

An Order Report is a tab-delimited text file that lists all products sold during a set time period. It includes the buyer information that you need to fulfil orders. It does not include the buyer's billing address or credit card information.

The New Orders report only displays information for seller-fulfilled orders you have received during the number of days you select, including those you have cancelled or confirmed as shipped. For Amazon-fulfilled orders (through FBA), see the All Orders Report.

How do you request an order report?

Follow these steps:

  • In Seller Central click Orders from the drop-down menu.
  • Then select Order Reports.
  • Select New Orders.
  • In the Request Report section, select the number of days to include in the report.
  • You can adjust a number of the columns that appear in the report by clicking on Add or remove order report columns.
  • Click the Request button.

It can take up to 45 minutes to generate your report.

It is also possible for you to schedule an order report at various intervals during the day.

Check out this help page for more information: Order Reports.

Important Note: This feature is only available to sellers that have subscribed to the professional selling plan.

Quick Tip: Date Range reports
by Seller_pcsb5w54JugEA

The Date Range reports include individual Transaction reports and Summary reports for orders within a specific range, based on the date when transactions were posted to your account. This may not correspond to the order date or the shipment date.

Important: The Date Range reports capture all of the transactions between the first report date at 12:00 a.m. to the last report date at 11:59 p.m. local time

Follow these steps to generate a custom Date Range report:

  1. From the Payments drop-down menu, select Reports Repository.
  2. On this page, select the account type, if applicable. If you have multiple account types, you can select All to generate unified reports for all of your available accounts.
  3. Select one of the following report types:
  • The Summary report (PDF) is an overview of income, expenses, taxes and fund transfers in your seller account during a specific date range.
  • The Transaction report (CSV) is a detailed list of the transactions that occurred in your seller account during a specific date range.
  • A Deferred Transaction report (CSV) is a detailed list of the transactions that are currently deferred. For more information on deferred transactions, go to What is a deferred transaction?

4. Select one of the following date ranges:

  • The Month option will generate a report from the first to the end of the selected month. Select a month and year from the drop-down menus. You can select a previous month or a future month up to one year in the future.
  • The Custom date range option will allow you to select any dates of your choice. Use the date pickers to specify the start and end dates for your report.

5. Click Request report.

Reports can take up to three hours to generate. If you cannot see your report in the list yet, check again later.

Additional information can be found here: Date range reports

Are there any other reports you would like to see a Quick Tip post about?

Quick Tip: Payments Reports Repository
by Seller_pcsb5w54JugEA

Hi Everyone!

The Payments report displays your account's payment information. The Payments Reports Repository is home to all of the reports that relate to your payments with Amazon.

On this page you can request for Date Range reports, track report status, add custom tags to your reports, schedule reports for future dates and modify or cancel previously scheduled reports.

Here are some steps of how to use this page:

Specify a custom date range or select a single month

You can specify any custom date range or select “Month” to request a report from the first to last date of your selected month. If you select today’s date or a date in the future, we will schedule the report to be generated 24 hours after your specified end date.

A new feature: Specify your own custom report tag

You can now specify custom tags for your report. You can use these tags to search for previously requested reports containing the same tags. If you leave this blank, we will provide a default tag for your report.

Click on “Request report” to generate your Date Range report.

Your requested report will appear on the table below, where you can track the status of your report and download the file when it is ready.

A new feature: Sort reports by request date

Use the arrow on the column title to sort your list of reports by request date. By default, we show the latest request at the top of the table and retain requests for up to one year.

A new feature: Search for reports by tag

You can type in your tag in the search box on the column title to filter for reports matching your specified tag.

Track report status and download your report

Reports will show as “In progress” while they are being generated. You can click “Refresh” to check if they are ready for download. If a report status shows “Failed”, try waiting 24 hours before requesting for the report again, or try splitting your request into shorter date ranges.

For more information check out the following help page: Payments Reports Repository
