Lost in post - Seller Fulfilled to EU- what's the procedure for resending?

I've had a couple of items lost in post being sent to the EU.

Royal Mail International Standard.

What I have been doing, to keep everything square with EU customs, is to cancel and refund the lost order, then get the customer to place a duplicate order.

It seems clunky. Is it correct? Is there a better way?

thanks

Are you absolutely sure they are lost ? - many customers know how to play the system and get a freebie, especially overseas. You are correct in getting the customer to place another order, and not just send a replacement. If it is happening regularly, then it might be worth paying the extra for tracking, depending on the value of the items.
