What Good is Maximum Quantity?

So you can add a maximum quantity for a product - so what good does it do as a customer can simply place a new order for another set of the products? I would really like a mod comment on this -- we should be able to cancel subsequent orders without it dinging account health.

"so what good does it do as a customer can simply place a new order for another set of the products? "

One possible answer is "it depends". It depends on what you have your shipping set for.

My items are generally small and I have all of them set for 'free shipping'. Buyers love that and have no understanding that shipping is NEVER 'FREE'.

Because my shipping cost is built into every item, and several items can fit in the same envelope or box with very little added cost I LOVE it when people order multiples.

Every additional one they buy is a bonus to my bank account because they are paying about $5 PER ITEM for the shipping and it costs me pennies to add a couple ounces to the weight being shipped.

IF you are charging shipping, you need to set up your shipping templates properly to add the cost of shipping for any multiple items ordered to the cost of the order.

For my larger, heavier items that cause 'dimensional weight' I have a "per item" cost that covers the extra shipping charges built in.

We love Max Order as it keeps the hackers/fraudsters from 'holding' our inventory.

We ARE able in our system to 'spot' the multiple orders and combine - the ones that slip thru - no big deal as we too have padded the eaches price so no harm no foul we still are $ to the good.

Always Limit of 1 is good rule it will limit your losses and abuse of customers ordering multiples and returning multiple damaged items so less is better on this platform other sites like the bay more is better.

A Buyer can lessen the shipping amount per item by purchasing multiple items on the same order.

Most of us set a postage rate that we hope is close to the correct rate, but most of us receive less on invoiced postage than ACTUAL postage charges, so reducing the postage amount still further only eats into the profit.

By limiting the amount the Customer can buy, you are forcing them to make another purchase and pay the shipping for both items instead of having the shipping amount for one item be split across two items.

Some items may be pre- packaged to go out as 1 item or may be so heavy or bulky that you would not want to give a discount for multiple items. Some items may be ok to discount in 2 or 3 but not over that due to increases when you get over a pound. You can also use it on items that you just don't want to sell everything to one buyer. Another example is items where you are forced by Amazon to give a near loss price, you would not want to give a shipping discount top of that.

Hi there @Seller_T0qOSBvVNLY7P,

I'm sorry you have been frustrated with the way that Maximum Quantity feature currently works. I think that the responses from a number of the Sellers here can demonstrate how a Maximum Quantity may still help you. At this time there is no path to limit a buyer from placing multiple orders for a product. I can take your feedback that you'd be interested that limits an account to only order a product once, however I won't be able to provide any updates due to the internal nature of these types of reviews.

In general it's better to sell more products than fewer so I'd recommend you provide more context of your specific business needs and maybe myself or a Seller might be able to give you some insights into options to mitigate the issue. Thank you for your understanding.
