Amazon Custom Products - Character Limit vs. Lines of Text Allowed
When setting up my Amazon Custom item, there are two parameters that need to be set in the Text Block dialog: Character Limit, and Lines of Text Allowed.
My item, like (I assume) all Custom items, has a set width and can only have a specific amount of characters printed on it. Let's say, for example, 20 character width. However, at the same time, I want to be able to offer up to 4 lines of text, with each line being UP TO 20 characters in width.
The issue is that there is no character limit PER LINE. It's just an overall character limit. So if I set the limit at 20, that will mean that the customer has a TOTAL limit of 20 characters over 4 lines. And if I set it at 80 characters (20 characters * 4 lines), then nothing is stopping the customer from entering 80 characters on ONE LINE.
I know that a solution would be to create 4 separate Text Line entries - this is how I've always done it - e.g. Customer would have a box to enter Text Line 1 (Character limit 20), then enter Text Line 2 (Character limit 20), etc. But this causes its own share of headaches: a) Setting up proper spacing of the lines so that each font works equally is very tedious b) customers not seeing a true, clear representation of the mockup, c) and in general, more confusing than one simple data entry...
Anyone understand the issue and have any ideas?
Any support from Amazon Custom on this? (In the past I've come to discover that many Amazon employees don't even realize that there IS such a thing as Amazon custom LOL, and I tend to have a hard time getting in touch with someone in the department).
Thanks!

Amazon shows 4 different lines. If the buyer puts everything on one line, the preview of the product will show that everything will be TINY print. As soon as they get longer than the recommended print, it gets smaller and smaller. Just play with someone else's custom listing to see what a buyer sees.

@KJ_AmazonI saw on another thread that there is no longer an Amazon custom category in the forums...how do I get answers to my Amazon Custom specific questions?

Hey there @Seller_TYoZGkdBad8xU - thanks for the detailed thoughts on the process for custom product text here, I've made sure our teams are aware of the feedback, though I can't confirm if any changes will be made to the system.
There is a 'Handmade' community, which may be helpful and you might have access to by clicking on 'Groups' in the top level forums menu. Let me know if you have access to post in that group!
At the highest level though, I do believe creating the 4 separate text line entries and confirming the process for customers in the product description is likely the best path forward, but this is the sort of poignant feedback that helps our teams improve these processes for you, so thanks again!
Best,
Danny
