Credit Card "Invalid"

Hi everyone,

I'm in desperate need of help because I get the same generic unhelpful response from Amazon Seller support every time.

My credit card was working perfectly for over a year up until a couple of weeks ago. I got an email from Amazon stating that "Action required: Account set to inactive due to dormancy". To resolve, I had to go and update my "charge method". So I went in to my charge methods and immediately it said that my credit card was "invalid".

For reference, I haven't been logging onto Amazon on my laptop (only my phone) as I live and travel in a campervan which doesn't have hotspot or wifi majority of the time. I still check and respond on the Amazon app though so I have no idea why it was marked as dormant.

I tried literally 5 different credit cards, all with the same result. And yes, I've 100% got the information correct in all of them - I cross checked the bank statements to be sure.

I've tried having the credit card on the buying account to no avail. I've tried deleting the credit card and putting in a different charge method, waiting 24 hours and re-inserting the information on the credit card again.

This is the error message: "Unable to charge. Amazon is not able to charge with the listed charge methods. This could be either due to incorrect details or lack of bank’s permission for respective marketplace."

I've spent hours on the phone to my bank making sure that the credit card is able to be charged in international currencies, that it does not have any blocks on the card and re-verifying the information on the phone so that it is 100% correct.

When I've deleted the credit card back out, I make sure it is deleted from each marketplace.

I have Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.mx marketplaces (even though i only signed up for Amazon.com).

If anyone has any ideas or could help, I would be so grateful. I think I've cried out of sheer and absolute frustration about Amazon's seller "support" or lack thereof about 3 times and I'm SO exhausted. I just want my account back so I can work. It's literally people's livelihoods and they don't seem to care whatsoever.

Thanks in advance. Oh and if anyone from Amazon sees this, I have multiple cases but the main thread is ID: 14463772221. PLEASE HELP!

Thank you for reaching out. This is a very common issue among new sellers when signing up with Amazon. Amazon requires a real credit card, so not a debit or pre-paid card. Your financial institution may only allow your credit card to be used in certain countries. As a result, you may see the same credit card being honored by Amazon in some of our stores, but not in others. When you register in Amazon as a seller, it is necessary to enter an internationally chargeable credit card with a valid billing address located in an eligible country. Reach out to your financial institution to determine the countries your card is eligible to be used in. You can use different credit cards in various Amazon stores. For the list of accepted credit cards, go to Bank account and credit card information for your seller account.

Note: We do not accept alternative charge methods, such as prepaid credit cards, gift certificates, checks, or online payment systems like PayPal.

Accepted credit cards

We accept the following credit cards:

  • American Express
  • Diners Club
  • Discover
  • JCB
  • MasterCard
  • Visa

Also note to make sure the buyer side is also updated. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Here to help. I will also review the case ID and respond back if I find something we can escalate.

Happy selling.

Cheers,

Micah

First step is to make sure it is a major credit card. Not a debit card, prepaid card, a card only useable in a certain country or a credit union card. I'm not sure if it makes a difference for charging or not, but also make sure the information on your card matches your ID/Driver's license exactly. No name variation, no street variation, etc. One of these little things may be the issue.

I got the same problem but nobody told me how to solve it. Amazon charged my credit card successfully and then didn't allow me to list products since "You’re currently unable to add or edit listings because either the credit card on file is invalid or the credit card is in the process of validating, which could take up to 24 hours. Please ensure that you have a valid credit card uploaded in Account Settings."

Debt cards have the Visa and Master Card logo on them, but they are not credit cards. Those cards only use the brand name for internal routing. Debt cards are unregulated and not accepted by amazon.

To obtain a credit card, you have to undergo a credit background check before being issued one. They are regulated by international regulations.
