Sales Tax file

Hi,

I am a new seller so I have confusion on filling sales tax in Virginia. I do not know if I file it on monthly base or end of the year? And also how to file it?

Thanks!

You should contact your state tax office; they will be able to best advise you.

Note that the requirements for you may differ from another seller in the same state here on Amazon, so you really need to check for your own business.

Keep in mind that Amazon takes care of the money; they collect the sales tax and remit it to Virginia, so you will not have to send in money for your sales on Amazon; but if Virginia is like most states, you will still need to report the sales, and you will probably have some place to indicate what amount of the sales have already had tax paid. Of course, you will still owe sales tax on any sales you made through other avenues that do not have Marketplace Facilitator collection in place.

Hi @Seller_sMFXFqsW5epVG,

Steve from Amazon here, thank you for the post. While I am unable to provide specific tax advice, I have provided several resources below with more information on Amazon tax guidelines.

Tax Guidelines

State Tax Registration Numbers

Amazon Tax-Exemption Program

Marketplace Withheld Tax

After review, if your question is still unanswered, I recommend that you create a case to Seller Support with your question and they can engage the Tax department.

Thanks,

Steve
