FBA Inventory Removals: A Comprehensive Guide
Hi Sellers,
We have seen a number of threads recently around FBA removals, wanted to share some additional information on this topic!
The Amazon Services Business Solutions Agreement mandates that you remove any units that are damaged, unsellable, or otherwise unfit for the FBA program. Failure to do so can result in Amazon disposing of this inventory. To stay on top of your removals, here's a guide with key tips and strategies:
Monitor for Removal Notifications
- Amazon will proactively notify you via email if you have any inventory that requires removal. Don't ignore these alerts - they indicate units that could be customer returns in damaged or unsellable condition. Respond to these notifications right away.
Understand the Removal Timeline
- It's important to know that the FBA removal process can take 90 days or more to complete, plus an additional 2 weeks for the carrier to deliver the shipment. This extended timeline means you need to plan removals well in advance.
- Removal orders are subject to per-unit fees based on your product's size tier and shipping weight. Refer to the official FBA removal order fee schedule to estimate these costs.
Automate Removals with Unfulfillable Settings
- To streamline the process, configure your "Automated unfulfillable" settings in Seller Central. This allows Amazon to automatically handle the removal of unsellable units on your behalf, so you don't have to manually create orders.
Proactively Remove Slow-Moving Inventory
- Regularly review your FBA stock and submit proactive removal orders for any slow-moving or excess inventory you want to get out of the fulfillment centers. This gives you more control over your logistics.
Leverage Value Recovery Options
- If you don't want returned or excess inventory back, consider Amazon's value recovery services. They can recycle or dispose of units on your behalf, potentially recouping some of the value.
Mastering FBA removals takes diligence, but it's a critical part of maintaining a healthy, profitable Amazon business. Stay on top of notifications, understand the process, and use automation to streamline it all. Let me know if you need any clarification or have additional questions!

@Dominic_Amazon We have a brand partner that hasn't sent inventory into Amazon for well over a year. They have not had any inventory but they regularly get charged for a removal order of inventory. Why do they keep having inventory show up in their account? How do we stop it from happening? We have their product in our account and I suspect that product from our account occasionally gets misallocated to their account. Please help. We are all very frustrated. They have opened cases without any valid response to try to get it fixed.

@Dominic_Amazon Thanks for the tip. Most inventory removals that I've done have ended with me getting packages from Amazon that are busted with damaged product inside. How do I file a claim for reimbursement when the inventory Amazon sends back is damaged and can't be resold?

If the wrong product was sent to FBA (pallets of them) and we need to remove the entire inventory, is there still a waiting period before a new replenishment order/shipment can be sent for that sku?
(used to be that no replenishment was allow for a previously removed sku for 6 months if I recall!)
