A new book publisher in need of solution to ISBN vs. GS1

This seems to be a relatively common issue but I have not seen how to actually make progress with seller support. We are a new book publisher. We want to list our physical books on amazon but we continue to encounter "Error 8572".

We own valid ISBNs issued by Bowker in the U.S. But seller support continues to insist the product ID appear in the GS1 database, which does not actually apply to books and ISBNs.

It seems a previous seller was somehow able to be recognized as a publisher in amazon's system via the publisher code part of the ISBN and, once that occurred, they were able to list their books as products.

In conversation with seller support, however, I cannot make progress beyond "it must be in GS1," even when product listing guidelines explicitly indicate ISBNs as the appropriate product ID for books. And in the U.S., Bowker is the appropriate ISBN issuing agency.

We are in the process of putting the e-books on KDP but we also want to list of physical books and use FBM in amazon seller (we are not ready for Amazon advantage).

I would be grateful in any help to make it past this issue.
