Why does Amazon allow late returns?!
I received a return today for an order placed 66 days ago!!! Why does Amazon allow this?! Yes, the buyer requested the return within the return window, but didn't actually ship it back to me about a month later. This order should not be refunded. This is ridiculous!

Amazon does this to "Maximize" the joy to the customer. Amazon does not really care about individual sellers. We (sellers) are replaceable. Customers are theirs for life, and this leads to increased sales and (hopefully) higher stock prices. As any publicly traded company, Amazon exists to maximize shareholder returns. Full Stop.
Customer Service has the right to issue returns whenever they so choose months, or even years later. This is what we all agreed to when we signed up.

If it was a RFS return, you should be able to open a SAFE-T claim for reimbursement. When I do it, I cite the order date, the return tracking number, and the date the tracking number shows it was shipped back on.

Sorry I did not address this first. Customers have the right to I think wait up to 30 days to actually send it back. Odds are this is interpreted as "Shipped" 30 days later, so I doubt this will be judged as "out of the window." Close is generally good enough for Amazon.

Hi @Seller_3jKXhYyd3shI1and thanks for reaching out with your question. I can understand why this is frustrating for you.
I agree with @Seller_f4a7xAPCCSMqDthat you should be able to open a SAFE-T claim for reimbursement. My colleague @KJ_Amazonrecently shared this How to file a SAFE-T claim: steps and best practices article, which should be helpful if you decide to opt in and submit one.
Thanks, and please let me know if I can answer any further questions--I'm always happy to assist.
Best,

But try to return something to Amazon after more than 30 days, I had bought a new book from Amazon but I received it in very good condition (ripped dust jacket , cover corner tips bent) since their shipping departments fails to use any protective packing, I misread the 30 day return date by a day, (closer to 17 hours actually,) and I got to the UPS store to show them the scanner code, Amazon had already removed it, because I was hours late. Amazon itself will not take back items that were damaged by their own neglect if it is 30 days and a minute after that.
