New listing ; Amazon asking for external product ID

Hello,

I want to list a new product, which comes in 2 variations. While creating the listing, it's asking for an external product ID. How do I find this?

I am not planning to use UPC codes, since I will be selling it only on amazon. My understanding is that ASIN will be assigned to the new products on amazon once the listing is completed. However, its a required field while creating the listing under "variations" page.

Please help!

Thanks

Certain products NEED a UPC. So you have to buy some from GS1.

BUT - this is also for your protection. If YOU are the owner of the UPC that was used for creating the listing you can always proove that you are the owner of the brand you sell. You are much more protected from hijackers selling on your listing. Buying UPC codes is an investment in your safety.

Hi @Seller_AttVWoUm6NeUt,

I understand that you want to list your products on Amazon without using a barcode. If your products are generic, you can follow this help page. Ensure that you are not listing another brand as generic or your brand as this is a policy violation. Here is a help page that explains GTIN exemptions and how to apply for one if your products qualify. If you are sending your items to FBA to be shipped to your customers. you will need to apply an Amazon barcode to your products before shipping them to the fulfillment centers.

Please know that if you do not apply a UPC on your product now and want to use a UPC or sell an item that was generic but you want to use your brand in the future, you will have to create a new ASIN per the Detail Page Rules policy, which means you will lose any reviews from the ASIN and product ranking.

If you have specific questions about your products, please reach out to Seller Support and feel free to send me your Case ID if you still need help after they investigate.

Regards,

Michelle
