Tax Setting Responsibility
Holy O! I have been reading thru the forum and I am more confused. I just opened a Handmade account. I operate out of Maine and sell jewelry. I have a state issued tax number, But I Do Not Recall Amazon asking for it in the application.
Questions: Does Amazon Automatically remit sales tax to Maine for me?
Dont they need my number?
Do I have to set something up? My eyes glaze over when i go to tax settings
Thank you!

- You should just be adding YOUR STATE.
- Your State Tax Registration Number
- Your States Tax Rate
Amazon collects tax on your behalf

I will add to the advice from Sundance that, while Amazon will collect and remit all taxes for you, you most likely will still need to file regular reports with your state. Particulars vary from one state to the next, but most will ask your total sales, then one of several ways to back-out sales for which there is no tax due.
Failure to file could result in penalties, even if you owe nothing (again, varies from state to state). Of course, if you have sales elsewhere, you will be responsible for the taxes on those sales.

Hi @Seller_hFgrWCNlPFtJM,
Steve from Amazon here, thank you for the post. While I am unable to provide specific tax advice, I have provided several resources below with more information on Amazon tax guidelines.

After review, if your question is still unanswered, I recommend that you create a case to Seller Support with your question and they can engage the Tax department.
Thanks,
Steve
