Playing it Safe - An Intro to Amazon's Dangerous Goods Program

Today we will be taking the Highway to the Danger Zone! ⚠️ The “Dangerous Goods Zone” that is... Sorry Kenny Loggins! 😬

As we strive to maintain a safe environment for our customers, sellers and employees, it's crucial to understand Amazon's Dangerous Goods Review Process. This process ensures that products classified as dangerous goods are properly evaluated before being listed for sale. Here's what you need to know:

What are Dangerous Goods?

Dangerous goods (also called hazmat) are substances or materials that may pose a risk during storing, handling, or transporting because they contain flammable, pressurized, corrosive, or otherwise harmful substances. To prevent potential health and safety risks, Amazon gathers dangerous goods information related to any products sold on Amazon.

Note that consumer products such as laptops, smartphones, household cleaners, spray paints, and cosmetics might also be regulated as dangerous goods. You can find a list of products that may be regulated as dangerous goods in Examples of possible dangerous goods.

Review Process and Required Information

Products with complete and correct dangerous goods information will be reviewed and classified within two business days (Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays). Products with incomplete, inaccurate, or conflicting information may be blocked for sale through FBA.

Important: You will have 14 business days to comply with product safety compliance requirements. Not providing this information may result in delayed shipments, canceled customer deliveries, or inventory disposed at your expense. Amazon reserves the right to take the corresponding actions without prior notice

To ensure that your product is classified correctly, one or both of the following documents might also be required:

  • A safety data sheet: If you haven't uploaded an SDS, the one that you uploaded is not valid, or the information in it is contradictory, obtain a complete and correct SDS from the manufacturer and upload it. If your product does not contain any harmful chemicals (for example, alcohol, acid, and sodium) and you can’t obtain an SDS, upload an exemption sheet.
  • Exemption sheet: If you haven't provided complete and accurate information, upload an exemption sheet for either batteries and battery-powered products or for products without harmful chemicals.

We also offer the FBA Dangerous Goods program, which allows participating sellers to sell additional types of dangerous goods. The dangerous goods program in the US does have a waitlist for participating.

To join the waitlist, visit →THIS← help page and select FBA dangerous goods program, then click Next, then click Apply to the FBA dangerous goods program. To sell dangerous goods through FBA, you must do the following:

  • Stay informed about current, relevant legislation and regulations
  • Provide complete and correct information about your products
  • Upload a complete, correct, and up-to-date SDS or exemption sheet

If you have any specific questions about your compliance or hazmat needs, please create a New Discussion in the 'Product Safety and Compliance' category with as much detail as possible along with your Seller Support Case ID and a Community Manager can help look into it.

At the end of the day, product compliance and dangerous goods regulations are not just about passing a simple review - it's about ensuring our customers, employees, and partners are safe throughout the entire supply chain process from start to finish. With that in mind...

  • Do we have any sellers on the forums who ship products that are classified as a dangerous good (hazmat)? ⚡⚠️
  • Do you have any best practices or tips and tricks you could share about this program and process to help other sellers if it’s their first time? 🧪🚩

Looking forward to hearing your advice in the replies below! ~ Cooper_Amazon

@Cooper_Amazon Now don't go getting all "FOOTLOOSE" over there. Just "MEET ME HALF WAY" on this subject. If you can do that then I can comfortably say "I'M ALRIGHT"
