Sales way down what is happening with Amazon
Hi, my sales the last month have been tanking for no reason.
This month has been brutal and I dont know what to do.
Ive seen people saying Amazon is doing something behind the scenes with the algorithm is this true?
This is incredibly frustrating spending a fortune on PPC and yet nothing is fixing what is happening.
Like i said does anyone know what is happening with Amazon changing anything?

Yes, our sales have plummeted by 40-50% since June 13th and it continues to this day. August was the worst month in many years. It also seems to us that something has changed in the Amazon algorithms. It is also possible that the reason is that the pandemic is over and people are spending money on vacations and preparing their children for school.
It all depends on many criteria, but we have not seen such a nightmare for a long time.
I'd like to hear other sellers' thoughts.

What do you sell? Maybe they don't need what you are selling.

Are you an old seller? I'm an old seller and all my listings have been throttled since start of the year so I also don't list a lot here anymore. I've noticed new sellers getting buy box more than me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but everything metrics-wise is all in good standing. I don't see Amazon as partner anymore especially with what they've been doing to me and my inventory.

You will find lots of people saying "Sales are down!" any time you post this kind of thing to the Forum. As many as say sales are down, though, there are just as many others (who are probably less likely to post) whose sales are up. At this time of year people are headed back to school, having a last shot at summer vacation over Labor Day week, getting back into the rhythm of more intensive schedules at work, returning to teaching, and so on. I'm never too worried about an occasional slow month. If it stretches on for two or three months, you may have to re-think what you're selling and the price at which you are selling it. Maybe a new player has come into your market? Maybe a competitive product has been launched? Lots pf moving parts with Amazon selling, and it is often tricky to sort them all out. Good luck, though!

Here's my take
- PPC costs are rising because that's how you get on page 1 of search
- Organic traffic is low because the search page is at least 50% ads
- PPC sales are an increasing % of overall sales, but not leading to more organic sales like they used to
- Less people shopping right now because they are busy with end of summer vacations and back to school
- People have less disposable income or holding back due to uncertainty in economy
Using this time to increase my SKU count as much as possible before Q4 and focus on my brand (store, ads, posts, promotions).
