Opening a new account

I've had my account with Amazon for many years, always in good standing. My plan is to retire in 2 years and pass my business on to a friend that has worked with me for years. Since amazon does not allow transferring an account or selling an account we are considering having him opening a seller account now so his account has 2 years to gain sales and feedback before I shut mine down and retire.

My worry is he is tied to my account as he has had full permissions on my account for the past 12 years. His phone number is listed as on the account as a contact number. We are worried that if he opens an account under his name it will be considered to be associated with my account and let the suspension fun begin....

I'm frustrated and feel like there are just never ending Amazon roadblocks to what should be a simple everyday process. Is there a clear path to doing this that won't wind up with my account being suspended?

I wouldn't have him open an account, as you said, they can be found "related". And if his account gets in any trouble, there goes your years of running your business.

" Is there a clear path to doing this that won't wind up with my account being suspended?"

Since you recognize the fact that your current working account can NOT be sold or transferred as it is, think about talking to an attorney.

I don't know if this will work, but maybe you can restructure the current account into an actual corporation with a board of directors. Those types of structures can be changed on Amazon since they are an 'eternal' operation.

An attorney that is at least familiar with Amazon (beyond the 'I buy stuff there' level) might have some ideas.

No matter what trying to get some clarity on how (and if) you can replace your sole ownership to a corporate structure needs to come ultimately from Amazon.

Hello @Seller_NxQTyL4zOqAYv,

Thank you for reaching out. My apologies on the frustration this has caused. Seller accounts generally are not transferable. Seller accounts provide access to the tools and resources that sellers use to list their products and manage their orders. Seller accounts also include account activity history and buyer feedback. Every seller on Amazon must have a seller account and an agreement with Amazon that establishes the terms under which the seller lists and sells their products.

If the ownership of a business changes for any reason, the new owner must establish a new seller account.

If the ownership of a business is not changed, but the individuals responsible for managing the seller account have changed, you can add users to the account. For more information, see Set User Permissions.

I do see that our seasoned sellers have chimed in with great information and guidance. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Micah
