Do i really need an ITIN?

I'm from Europe and want to start selling on amazon.com (US).

Both my account and my brand have been approved and its' now time to send in my first inventory. My country has a tax treaty with the US and from my understanding, amazon fills out the W8-BEN form for you after the tax interview has been approved.

However, all the gurus are saying that you need to have an ITIN. Is this really the case? Is there anything else i need to do or am i good to go and start selling?

Thankful for answers

It is not necessary to have a TIN in order to determine if you are a U.S. or non-U.S. person for U.S. income tax purposes. However, any reduction of the statutory withholding tax rate (30%) applicable to your U.S. source payments will not apply until you can provide a TIN. See →Tax Information Interview Guide

I am selling from Europe and during registering on amazon.com I had to fill the "Tax Information Interview". You fill in that you are NOT a US person and put in your name and address EXACTLY like your local tax authorities contact you. Under "Signature" you write your name and "Save". This will create the W8-BEN. (Of course this applies only if you were not so stupid to listen the gurus who all recommend creating a US LLC...).

I had no problems so far but I can imagine that if you exceed a certain sales volume you have to reconsider and take US tax adive. But honestly, under one million of sales, I don't think anybody cares.
