Return Shipping

Has there been a change to the policy around returns for change of mind. ie "No longer needed" or "Bought By Mistake"?

We used to be able to charge for the return shipping for these return reasons but over the last few months that option has disappeared and we have to pay for the return label.

Here is a screenshot. We used to see a tick box for charging return shipping.

If the buyer paid for return shipping, e.g. they used their employer's shipping service, then you're out of luck. Match the tracking on the box to the tracking on the Amazon-generated label.

Good question. We get quite a few "changed mind" returns because when the product shows up they find it a bit odd despite it being exactly what they ordered. Amazon's policy is to keep the buyers happy at all cost so the fees for return shipping of FBA are automaticlly billed to us. Heck I've started arguing because I have FBA shipments that leave the warehouse due to an error in the buyers address it's returned and we have to pay a fee and lose around $5 which on a $20 product is ridiculous. No buyer accountability in Amazons world it all falls on us sellers.

I think Safety Claims and A2Z Claims are the new way for amazon to pay out less and put it on the seller. You can file the proper claim and get the thing you seek return shipping and restock. If you get many returns amazons bet, is you will just take the hit. If I am correct you need to file, the Safety Claim.

I've just looked through another forum post and i think ive solved the issue!

We opted in to Seller Fulfilled Prime and it seems that any orders shipped through that program are not able applicable to charge the customer return shipping. Who knew! We are close to being kicked off that program as the performance metrics are almost impossible to maintain so i guess i wont have that problem for much longer. Hey ho, we battle on!

Hello @Seller_RnoJYdlqCE5Tw

Thank you for posting your inquiry to the Forums.

Per our guidelines for charging restocking fees, if a buyer changes their mind about a purchase and returns a non-media item within the return window, but you (the seller) receives the item with damage, missing parts, not in original condition, or that have obvious signs of use for reasons not due to Amazon or seller error, you can charge up to 50% of item's price as a restocking fee.

If the label was provided to the buyer as part of the Prepaid Return Labels network and Amazon issued the refund, you may file a SAFE-T claim. This help page provides additional details on filing a SAFE-T Claim for you reference.

Please feel free to update this thread if you need additional assistance.
