How long can pending orders take?

Hi - I put my shop on holiday mode a few days ago as we are moving this week. However, I’ve had an order sat in pending since Saturday. How long can it take for this to clear? I’m concerned as I might not actually be able to ship this item out for a while, and I’ve shipped all my other orders now so I’ll have to use a whole mailbag for just one large letter when this goes through! Will my account be massively affected if I cancel the order? Thanks!

For FBM orders it normally takes a week for a pending order to drop off. Sometimes a little longer.

If it does go through and you have to cancel it then one cancellation shouldn’t impact your account too much but if you not posting anything else it may cause your cancellation rate to go up to 100% so you should be aware of that.

If it is just a large letter you can buy postage through Amazon and stick in a post box or take it to a post office. It maybe easier to do if you are in the middle of moving.

You cannot cancel a pending order
They usually stay there for 7 days if the buyer doesn’t update their card and then are removed altogether
Although I’ve seen them on there for longer

If the transaction goes through and converts to unshipped, you’d need to look at your sales over the last week to 10 days to see if you can take the defect
Presumably not though if you’ve been on holiday settings

Thanks for the quickly replies Smiley_Guy , The_Little_Shop , NEil .

I didn’t realise you can’t cancel pending orders… It’s a bit silly that Amazon doesn’t accept payments immediately as this can mess a lot of sellers around (you would have to pay immediately in a shop). How can Amazon let an order stay pending for 8 months?

I’ve only shipped 33 orders out in the past 7 days and this number will slowly go down so my seller account might not be able to take the hit… I might just leave my thermal printer out until the last minute and use Amazon shipping and post in a post box like Smiley_Guy suggested.

I personally hate the whole pending orders system

It really annoys me around postage changes or fee changes.

I wait until the last possible day to change my prices so that my customers get pay a true and fair price, however anyone that ordered up to a week before and didn’t pay, can buy my item at the price from a week ago, when I have to pay the prices and fees from today.

I’d love to be able to walk into a shop and say here stick that box of cereal behind the counter, I’ll maybe come back sometime in the next week to pay, and if I do I expect to pay todays price, yes I know its on sale and the sale ends tomorrow, but I expect to pay todays price, oh you’re closing for 3 days on Friday? No problem I’ll be back on Sunday when you’re in Turkey, and I’ll expect you to give me this box at cereal at todays price!
