Ok I have a message from a seller but nowhere on the page is there a way to directly respond. Is it me or has this function disappeared?

Are you referring to a message in Amazon's buyer messages? It's at the bottom of the message itself.

Click the envelope icon in the upper right corner of Seller Central.
