Strictly No! in start they will not say anything. but once you start getting orders they will inactive your listings.

don't take any risk. opt for white background images from the start only. moreover white background will enhance the colors of your cloths.

As they have mentioned, it is necessary to have white backgrounds for the main image of the product. If the images do not meet Amazon's criteria then the image will not be added and your products may be suppressed.
