FBA or FBM 📦

Hello Sellers 👋
I've noticed a variety of opinions on which fulfillment method is best for your business. 🤔 I understand that this choice depends on several factors, and ultimately, every seller needs to assess their own situation.
That's why I wanted to bring this topic into the discussion to gather different perspectives:

Dear New Sellers,
Based on my experience and a practical approach, here are some simplified guidelines to help you decide between FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) and FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant):
When to Use FBA:
Single Product or Limited Variations: Ideal for products with a straightforward catalog.
Little Heavier Products (Close to or Over 1 kg): FBA is more cost-effective for little bulkier items.
Higher-Priced Items (Minimum Rs. 799 or Above): Ensures better profitability after FBA fees.
When to Use FBM:
Multiple Combos or Extensive Variations: Suitable for sellers with a wide range of customizable product combinations.
Lightweight and Low-Priced Products: FBM is cost-effective for lighter items with lower selling prices.
By aligning your product type and pricing strategy with the fulfillment method, you can optimize costs and enhance customer satisfaction.
Thanks for the topic selected

Thanks for starting this discussion! Here’s my perspective on the fulfillment methods:
💬 Which fulfillment method works best for you, and why?
For me, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) works best. Here’s why:
- Prime Eligibility: Products listed under FBA gain the Prime badge, which boosts visibility and increases conversions.
- Amazon Handles Logistics: They take care of storage, packing, shipping, and even customer service, saving me a lot of time.
- Scalability: With FBA, I can focus on sourcing and scaling rather than worrying about shipping logistics.
However, I also understand that Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM) or Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) can be advantageous in specific cases, like:
- Selling fragile or oversized items where FBA fees might be too high.
🤝 What should new sellers consider when choosing the right fulfillment method?
Here are a few key considerations for new sellers:
Product Type and Margins: If your product has low profit margins, consider FBM to avoid high FBA fees. For lightweight, high-demand products, FBA can be more cost-effective.
Order Volume: For high-order volume, FBA is great as it automates fulfillment and scales easily. For low-order volume, FBM might be better to minimize upfront costs.
Storage and Handling Needs: FBA works well for products that don’t require special handling or short-term storage. If you have space and time to manage inventory yourself, FBM can save costs.
Shipping Speed Expectations: Customers expect fast delivery. If you can’t offer that with FBM, FBA or SFP might be a better choice.
Fees and Cost Analysis: Always compare FBA fees with the cost of self-fulfillment (shipping, storage, labor, etc.).
With Thanks,

Dear Adam,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to share some critical feedback and suggestions regarding my experience with Seller Central over the past three months, specifically concerning product deliverability, notifications, and operational challenges.
Key Issues Observed:
Lack of Deliverability Notifications:
I was under the assumption that my products were available for delivery across all parts of India. Unfortunately, I only became aware of limitations when buyers contacted me to report non-delivery to certain locations. It would be immensely helpful if Seller Central provided notifications or alerts indicating any delivery coverage issues, enabling proactive resolution.
Handling Bulk, Heavy, and Hazmat Goods:
My products fall under the category of bulk, heavy, and hazmat goods, but there is no clear indication or tagging system for these categories within Seller Central. This lack of visibility makes it difficult to manage logistics and anticipate potential challenges with fulfillment and delivery.
Limited Insight on Coverage and Transit Times:
Currently, there is no way for sellers to verify whether products are deliverable to all regions in India or to get an overview of transit times based on the buyer's location. Having this information upfront would significantly enhance operational planning and customer experience.
Challenges with FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant):
Managing logistics for FBM is complex, as different providers have varying levels of reliability in different regions. Instead of focusing on selling and growing our business, sellers often find themselves spending excessive time on operational challenges.
Suggested Improvements:
Introduce a delivery coverage and transit time tool within Seller Central for sellers to verify serviceability across regions.
Enable notifications or alerts for delivery coverage issues or restricted areas to address potential problems proactively.
Include a tagging and categorization system for bulk, heavy, and hazmat goods to provide sellers and support teams with better visibility and management options.
Enhance Seller Support's access to relevant product and logistics information to offer informed assistance to sellers.
I believe these enhancements would greatly benefit sellers and improve overall customer satisfaction, reducing operational inefficiencies and allowing us to focus on growing our businesses.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback. I hope these suggestions can help create a more seamless experience for all sellers.
Best regards,
Sriram
