Change removal order from dispose to return to address

I am relatively new to selling on amazon. I recently had a chunk of my inventory marked as stranded. I am expecting to resolve the underlying issue in a few days, so hadn’t thought any more of this. However, I then received an email from amazon telling me my stranded inventory (about 650 pcs) will be auto-removed, as it’s been standard for 30 days. My auto removal settings were set to dispose, so a removal order (2lq0yaYf2R) has been created to dispose of the 650 pcs.

Clearly I am at fault for not fully investigating what would happen to this inventory after 30 days. I am unable to manually change the order from dispose to return to address. I have asked seller central help to change the order from dispose to return to address, as I now have an address to return them to. However they just say they can’t change anything.

Losing all this inventory will be a huge blow to my business. I do wonder if it possible for someone with a bit more authority to be able to grant an exception, and change this removal order from dispose to return to address (for the units that have not yet been destroyed, which is the majority of them)? I would really appreciate any help

Amazon is run by Artificial Intelligence. And if your settings were set to "auto disposal" your units will be disposed. Most times, like in this case, a human intervention is not possible.

You did create a case and asked seller support. Even if you ask a second time their answer will not change. On Amazon you have to react immediately to each message and take measures. You learnt it the expensive way.

You can try to cancel the disposal order. But as @Seller_rI7BZIczK8iACsaid, you may not be able to reverse it.

When you have stranded inventory, you need to work to take care of it right away. Don't leave things to fester, accrue fees, and risk disposal.

Hi @Seller_RCFQT1lmT3WZn, to echo these experienced sellers, stranded issues should be addressed immediately. You can delay automatic removal if you need more time to address these issues. To do this, go to Fix stranded inventory and select Delay removal 30 days from the drop-down menu to the right of the listing.

Take a look at Stranded inventory required removals. Unfulfillable inventory will be automatically removed. I suggest adjusting your preferences. If you do not configure a removal preference, your items will be Disposed.

A few tips to avoid stranded inventory issues:

  1. Do not close or delete a listing immediately after selling through your inventory. If there is lost inventory at the fulfillment center, or if there are customer returns of an item, without an active offer, this inventory will be stranded.
  2. Bulk upload templates: If the quantity column is populated on Bulk Upload template (e.g., Inventory Loader), listings will change from Fulfilled by Amazon to Fulfilled by Merchant automatically, which strands your inventory. Additionally, if you do not fill out the Is this product a battery or does it require batteries? column, it may strand your inventory in some categories.
  3. Avoid creating multiple offers for the same product. When you create a new or revise an existing listing, make sure the ASIN, SKU, and condition are the same as the inventory in your stranded inventory list.

Let me know if you have any questions.
