Wrong product assigned to EAN

I have this problem time and time again.

I go to add a product with the EAN written on the product packaging and a different product is being sold under the EAN. Commonly, its some form of unbranded clothing which a seller elsewhere in the world has potluck landed on a free EAN rather than pay for an EAN for their own product.

I'm not the manufacturer or brand manager, just a distributor. Therefore I have no control and cannot make any corrections. This means I can't sell the product at all. Amazon never help and there are multiple products in our warehouse that we can't sell on Amazon because of this issue.

What are everyone else's work-arounds?

There is no real work around.

You could buy your own EAN's and assign these to the products but you may not be able to list under the correct brand name as the EAN's do not match the brand. Even you can get them listed you may find the listings are taken down later as the EAN's do not match the brand.

Seller Support do not listen when you tell them the EAN is listing the wrong product. You may occasionally get one changed to the correct details but only with a lot of hard work with Seller Support.

As a distributor, bring this to the attention of the brand owner. They should be able to sort this issue out through Brand Registry by getting the offending ASINs removed.

Create your own brand.

Register the new brand at Brand Registry.

Buy new EAN's.

Assign the new EAN's to the products you sell.

List the products you sell, under the new EAN and under the new Brand.

Join the club. Most of my time spent battling this issue over and over again and as you rightly say Amazon just aren't interested.

This is completely normal. Genuine products with barcodes not registered with GS1 will get removed from the platform, but it seems using a geuine barcode for another product gets under their radar.

If the product is branded , try a search for a duplicate listing, I often have to sell under a different ASIN, so long as Im confident its an exact match. Its not how its meant to be done, but thats Amazon for you. Find a way to make it work, or you will be spending more and more time selling dead stock on Ebay.

Have you sent Amazon a photo/video of the item you have showing the correct product & barcode? It cant be a photo from the web, has to be one with you holding it.

This has worked for me a couple of times in the past.

Good luck

I checked with our partner teams and you should have received several emails asking for additional information.

Please let me know if you received them, if not I will look into it further.
