Shipping Template Help

Hello all!

I'm trying to zero in my shipping to be more efficient and save the customer and myself more money by refining my shipping templates. In doing this I am also trying to better understand how the shipping & handling is calculated at checkout when one of my many products are ordered.

I have values in all of my listings for item weight (safety & compliance tab) and package weight (offer tab).

My questions are:

1. What is the difference between Item Weight and Package Weight?

2. Is shipping & handling calculated using the listings Item Weight and Package Weight or both?

3. If not, how is shipping & handling calculated?

4. What other listing information is used by Amazon to calculate shipping & handling at checkout? (i.e. item length/width dimensions, etc.)

Thank you for all of your help and knowledge in this query.

Happy selling!

So, we sell glass items. The item weight is the product by itself on the scale....1.2 pounds. Then we package it with bubble wrap and put it in a box. The package weight is now 1.8 pounds.

I believe shipping is based on the package weight (and dimensions). But we offer free shipping on everything so I haven't looked at that specifically lately.
