Item delivered but buyer says it wasn't received

I shipped a book on time using Amazon shipping label. The address was a prison. USPS says it was delivered on Jan 31 and on March 9 the buyer said item not received (she bought it for someone in the Prison).

I asked her to talk with prison, which she did and they say it wasn't delivered after they looked around. I asked her to check with the PO and carrier but since it has been so long, I am not hopeful they will remember.

Originally She asked for a replacement but I am not happy about that. I am waiting now for her to check with PO but Not sure what to do next if she doesn't have luck with that. I guess she can file A-Z claim? As a seller am I responsible for things like this?

Yes, you are responsible for the item getting to the buyer. If you used Amazon's Buy Shipping, they cover these. If not, unless you got signature confirmation, you are out of luck. You would likely lose an A-Z. But do not send a replacement unless you refund her and then she re-orders, otherwise it could possibly go missing too with no tracking showing at Amazon. If it is expensive, go with the sig confirmation. If not, shipping to a jail or prison is a roll of the dice. Some booksellers contact the prison and ask what the rules are, since it varies from place to place about what they can receive.
