Product's Variation Type Chang - Is it possible?

I have a parent ASIN with two variations. The difference is the number of cups in the product - single & double.
When I first created the listing, I wrote the variation as Package Quantity (1,2)
In hindsight, it can be a little misleading because the customers might confuse it as 1pcs and 2pcs instead of single cup and double cup which should fall into the variation type: Size.
I want to modify the variation type Package Quantity (1,2) to Size (Single, Double) to avoid future misunderstanding but AMZ seller support told me that the variation cannot be changed and the only solution will be creating new ASINS and deleting the existing ones.
Considering the reviews the listings have accumulated and the inventory which was already assigned to the respective ASINs, I am hesitant to do so.
Is there any other way that can allow me to change the variation type from Package Quantity (1,2) to Size (Single, Double) without deleting & creating new listings?

You don't get it.
Now, you have 3 ASINs including 2 child ASIN and 1 parent ASIN. Each has its own ASIN.
If you want to change variation type, you just need to delete the old parent ASIN and do nothing to child ASINs. After that, create a new variation including a new parent ASIN and 2 old child ASINs.
Parent ASIN is virtual and child ASINs are real. Since child ASINs are unchanged, the reviews, Best seller Rank, all details will not change.
