The idea of having 'x+ bought is past month' is done keeping in mind that it gives better information to customers, but bigger brands take advantage of this and bring outside traffic or by sampling to ensure its bought in past month numbers is best in the category, thereby making it look more attractive to customers compared to brands who does not do this.

This is a very biased approach as the real rating looses its effect in making choices in customers mind.
