What is the difference between Full Update and Partial Update? - Record Action

Hi, I'm trying to upload a new product under an existing parent variation. One of the product listing requirements is called "Record Action" - and explains "Specify the type of operation to be actioned on the data provided".

I have no clue what operation type is needed whether its for brand new child asins and parent sku, updating existing children and parent, etc.

A full update requires you to input all of the required details of your product pertaining to that category. Things such as...manufacturer part number...product condition...etc.

When you do a full update correctly, it tends to work more often than Partial Updates.

Partial updates will only update any information that you have submitted that is different than what is currently being contributed.

Partial updates are much faster when it works...but partial updates do not end up working out...this happens often...forcing you to try submitting a full update.

The big thing to know about the difference between the two is that a Full Update updates all the fields in the template while a Partial Update only updates the fields with data in them. That means that if you leave a field empty and do a Full Update, it will attempt to wipe out the previous data (I say attempt because sometimes Amazon's system will block it). If you just want to update a couple of fields and don't want to have to fill out the whole template, then you can just fill out the required fields and the ones you want to update, leave the rest blank, and do a Partial Update. It will just update the fields with data in them and leave the blanks alone.
