EAN numbers swapped
Hi everyone,
edit: Thank you for all your help. Following your advice I reached out to SS again, and have updated below in this text.
I have two new products (0 sales so far fortunately): Product A and Product B.
I have sent inventory to Amazon, and both products have gone through the Vine program (and have 30 reviews each)*.
However, the EAN numbers have been swapped: Product A has EAN-B and Product B has EAN-A . I assume the EANs were incorrectly entered when the listings were created.
I have never seen this before and have no idea how to best go about fixing this.
Seller support has said I “just” need to delete the listing, wait 24 hours and then re-upload with the corrected information.
When I asked about the reviews, I was told that as long as I re-upload with the same SKU, all the reviews will stay the same. But I won’t be re-uploading with the same SKUs, as only the EAN is wrong.
I would greatly appreciate any and all help with this – even just knowing how to formulate this better for support would be greatly appreciated <3
We’re willing to pay for Amazon to reprocess our inventory (if that’s an option) and would also be happy to pay for a solution to this.
Thanks!
*interestingly enough, the reviews are all correct. So even though – we assume – the Vine samples were wrong (someone who requested to review A would have gotten Product B, the reviews - going by images and text - are all assigned to the correct listing). So Product A has reviews for Product A, even though we assume Product B was sent out.
Update
Brand registry answered with this:
Upon checking, It is to inform you that changing UPC/EAN will delete the listing from catalog and UPC can not be changed, it can only be created a new ASIN which will delete the existing ASIN.
Key attribute changes are only available for Brands which already have KAs due to the deprecation of GCIDs. If a Brand has GTINs (ex. UPC, EAN) but requires a new GTIN exemption.
Seller Support answered with this:
EAN is already linked to your ASINs, we are unable to change the EAN of the above 2 ASINs.
We requested you to delete and relist the ASIN with the correct EAN.
In order to resolve this issue, we request you to either “Delete and Relist your ASIN” (or) “do a Full Feed update”.
To " your ASIN", please follow the steps below:
Delete your product listing, wait for 24 hours and then relist the product with the correct information.
Deleting and relisting the product with the exact merchant SKU will not affect your existing FBA inventory (if any), ASIN sales history or reviews.
I’m not quite sure what Brand Registry is saying. But regarding seller support:
My current listing is
Product A
ASIN A
SKU A
Reviews A
EAN B
I can only upload with the following relevant fields:*
Product
SKU
EAN
*Because I can’t upload more than one UPC (whether that’s the ASIN, GTIN, EAN, etc)
If I upload
Product A
SKU A
EAN A
Will this automatically assign everything to:
- ASIN A (because it is the SKU that is bound to the ASIN?)
- Or ASIN B (because the EAN is bound to ASIN B)?
If I’m understanding SS correctly, it sounds like it would be option (1) ?

are you sure the actual EAN has been swapped
and not the labels on the packaging ?
did you send in on manufacturer barcodes or FNSKUs ?

If you created the listings then deleting and reloading with the correct information is likely to work. Your stock will go stranded why you do this.

Good luck with this one! You will need stamina but to be honest I don’t think you’re going to be able to fix this. We’ve had this issue a couple of times for different reasons and it’s near impossible to fix, even if Amazon take it completely seriously and give you the highest level of actual, genuine help - their system just isn’t designed to change EANs. We did manage it one time (after about a year and lots of help from Amazon) and to be honest sales never ever got back to even close where they were before. We have a really troublesome listing now, the catalogue just seems to know there is still some issue or bug on it. I would recommend starting again if you can - it will be less painful in the long run because I don’t believe you or Amazon will ever truly get this sorted.

I have changed the product id before on variations by useing the variation wizard to update them. If yours are variations it might be worth a try.
