SP-API Developer Access to PII request rejection

Hello,

We have requested access to PII to automatically process merchant fulfilled customer orders, but our application has been rejected 6 times. All 6 times with same reason: 4.1. Question - Describe why you require Personally Identifiable Information to build your application.

We've tried explain that we need PII to fulfill FBM orders, to provide better customer shopping experiences, and so on. All failed.

Could anyone help us on this case, or provide some tips on how we should describe our reason for PII Access?

Thanks in advance and hope your business grows well.

Hi @Seller_7mHQGaenFySMK

Amazon differentiates between 'Private developer' and 'Public developer', with access to personally identifiable information (PII) being particularly restricted.

Since you need this access for your own FBM fulfillment, I'd recommend starting with registering as a Private SP-API Developer (https://developer-docs.amazon.com/sp-api/docs/register-as-a-private-developer). This path typically has fewer hurdles than public developer registration.

Here are some suggestions to strengthen your application:

  • Focus specifically on the 'Direct-to-Consumer Shipping' role rather than applying for multiple roles. This makes your request clearer and more focused.
  • Use the exact terminology found in the SP-API documentation (https://developer-docs.amazon.com/sp-api/docs/roles-in-the-selling-partner-api) when describing your use case.
  • Review and reference both the 'Acceptable Use Policy' (https://developer-docs.amazon.com/sp-api/docs/policies-and-agreements#acceptable-use-policy-aup) and 'Data Protection Policy' (https://developer-docs.amazon.com/sp-api/docs/policies-and-agreements#data-protection-policy-dpp) in your application. Using their specific terminology shows you understand the responsibilities that come with handling PII.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards, Michael
