Swiching from Generic to my Brand

Hello fellow Amazon sellers,

I'm writing to seek advice and share my experience regarding a situation I'm currently facing with my brand application on Amazon. I hope some of you might have encountered a similar scenario and can offer some insights.

Here's what happened: While waiting for my trademark to be approved, I listed my product under a generic brand name to start selling on Amazon. After a considerable wait, I finally received my trademark certificate and was subsequently approved by the Amazon Brand Registry.

However, this is where I've hit a roadblock. I now want to update the brand name on my existing product listing to match my newly approved trademarked brand. But, after contacting Amazon's support team, I was informed that I cannot directly change the brand name on the existing listing. Instead, I'm advised to create a completely new ASIN for the product. This, unfortunately, entails removing my product from Amazon's warehouses, changing ASIN labels on each item, and then sending them back to the warehouses.

Naturally, I have some concerns about this approach. My main question is: Can I actually go through with this process without causing any conflicts, particularly related to the UPC that's already printed on the product's packaging?

Has anyone here faced a similar situation? If so, how did you handle it? Were you able to successfully create a new ASIN for your product without any issues arising from the existing packaging and UPC?

I'm really hoping to gather some insights and advice from the community here. Changing the ASIN for a product seems like a significant step, and I want to ensure I'm making the right decision that won't lead to further complications.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Your expertise and shared experiences are highly valued!

According to multiple posts from Amazon MODS it can't be done.

Start with this one from 1 while ago (as of 07/17/2023).

":What is the impact in enrolling in brand registry after listing your first product?"

In it @Sandy_Amazon stated quite clearly:

"Hello @bigbundytime

@C_W_Bt is correct that sellers will have to create new ASINs.

Please see the help page and look at the details under Policies for editing detail pages.

If you choose to re-brand a product you must create a new ASIN rather than update an existing ASIN. This is true even if the product is unbranded and does not change materially after the brand change. This includes adding a brand to a previously unbranded product. (emphasis added).

If you get lots of positive feedback on your generic listing, it could be damaging to delete and erase back to your trademarked ASIN, but this is a decision for you to make as you know your business and product the best.

If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Best,

Sandy"

It is against Amazon's brand name policy to change the brand name on a listing after creation with the only exception being to fix a small typo.
