Losing Money on Returns on Clothing

We make shirts real time, they aren't just sitting. I take pictures after the shirt is completed, before it's packaged. I deliberately used sealed packages inside of the shipping package. Lately I've noticed a disturbing trend. For instance, there's an artist that is doing concert tours, I got a few of those shirts back dirty. Like full on makeup and food stains along with dirty neck collars. The customer claimed it was received dirty and that a size small unisex shirt was too big. This specific package reeked of perfume and ammonia. I recorded a full video of unpacking the return but didn't have a way to upload it to the Safe-T claim.

Yesterday I received another return saying it smells funny, which is odd. I'm thinking i need to add a warning to wash before wearing. Due to the print process, the process itself would cause a slight scent.

I'm concerned due to it looking like people are wearing them and then using various reasons to return them.

How does everyone handle clothing returns because it's auto-authorizing the return and automatically refunding the money, where I'm not getting the chance to implement my worn clothing policy of a 25% deduction?

Do you know that clothing has the highest rate of returns on the Amazon site. It is nothing new. 98% of the returns are for the wrong reason. Buyers know they will get a full refund no questions asked, so you are fair game to be abused.

This is common knowledge to Amazon and that is why Amazon never has sold clothing products. Just too big of a loss to handle.

Hi @Seller_L3KKnkB7AYdCu,

Based on these examples you have provided, I can definitely see how some of these returns have been pretty frustrating. If you would like, you can send information on your most recent Safe-T claim associated with this issue to me and I can review it to see if there is any help I can provide. Please send the associated order ID number and Safe-T claim number.

In the meantime, I did want to provide some additional information around the Fashion returns policy and reimbursements for Seller-Fulfilled returns:

  • I'm sure you are already aware of the seller-fulfilled free return policy for Fashion items, but I have provided the link to the policy just in case you needed more information. Since it can be difficult to determine size, color preference, etc. of clothing items from the internet, Amazon has decided to offer free returns on Fashion items. And although this policy does remove the ability to charge for return shipping there are other options for you if product are not returned in their original condition.
  • I also know that you are already aware of the Safe-T claim process, but I wanted to provide this help page on the Reimbursement policy for Prepaid Return Labels (PRL) in the seller-fulfilled network. It might be helpful in determining whether or not an order may qualify for reimbursement.

As stated above, I'm happy to take a second look at your most recent Safe-T claim, but please be aware that I cannot guarantee a change in resolution.
