Amazon permits reviews of goods purchased outside of Amazon. You can even encourage customers to do so as long as they follow Amazon's guidelines (see inappropriate product reviews).
Is it possible the review was left by customers who purchased the item elsewhere?
Another question: Was the listing for the ASIN active? For how long?
