2025 returns processing fee changes - Product Category Check
Hi All,
With the upcoming new fee introduction for returns, could anyone provide an educated guess into what category Lighting Products fall under? Selling fragile glass items through FBA (regardless if your an absolute beast at package protection) still gets smashed to pieces by Amazon courier services. Naturally this is expected and not hoping things will change, but the introduction of this new fee will make FBA in this category unsellable
Looking through various software - Keepa etc - some lighting products fall under the main category 'Kitchen & Home' but a very large amount just fall under 'Lighting' which is not categorised under the 2025 Returns Processing Fee changes policy list of categories with the return rate threshold. The Lighting category does not come under 'Everything Else' so not sure how to correctly calculate this returns rate threshold.
Depending on the returns rate threshold, I may have to close down shop as the returns rate are naturally very high in this category due to poor Amazon delivery and uneducated consumers not having a clue what their light fittings are! Not complaining, it can't be helped, but it will have a substantial impact to profitability in this area. The current issues already creates 15-20% deduction of overall profit with a 10-15% monthly returns rate so the addition of this fee could push it past the point of being worthwhile.
maybe Amazon could investigate the returns rate of Lighting Products due to their fragile and specialist nature, and reconsider the Returns Rate threshold for this category. Moderators 'wink wink' :D

Hi @Seller_AddbznjmTOmgp,
Currently, the 'Lighting' category is not listed in the 2025 Returns Processing Fee category breakdown. However, return-rate thresholds are determined based on our fee category guidelines, which you can review via: Fee category guidelines for your products.
While many lighting products fall under 'Kitchen & Home,' we encourage you to verify your product categorization on the Revenue Calculator (search for an ASIN, then click the total referral fee amount to see which fee category the ASIN belongs to).
It's important to note that the returns processing fee applies only to returned units exceeding the return-rate threshold for a given product category. For example:
- Suppose 1,000 units of a particular ASIN in the Home & Kitchen category are shipped in February.
- Over the next three months (February, March, and April), 100 of those units are returned.
- The return-rate threshold for Home & Kitchen in February is 7.14%, meaning returns exceeding 71 units (7.14% of 1,000) will incur the returns processing fee.
- In this case, since 100 units were returned, the fee would apply to 29 units (100 - 71).
If you have any further questions, please let us know.
Best regards, Ezra!
