Thinking about sourcing from alibaba should I?

Hello everyone

I am creating this post because I am considering on sourcing some products from Alibaba or Made-IN-China and placing the listing under generic. I am aware that there are many other sellers who are already doing this and I have already found the niche/product I want to sell already and the supplier is verified with many other products they have made and has been on the platform for about 7 years. Keep in mind, the product I have found is not food or any electronic and the product isnt branded either.

While reading though forums I have noticed that Alibaba has a really bad reputation in regards to selling any of its items on amazon because they are known for counterfeit goods of big name brands and scammers. I am also aware that alibaba is just a marketplace and it is not a manufacture, all it is, is just a platform that manufactures use to sell their products on and I would need to get an invoice from the manufacture. I have also read from other sellers on the forum that have tried speaking to suppliers within the United States but gave up that idea because the products in the States are just way to expensive and nothing to net a good profit from.

So my question is should I just give up the idea on sourcing from alibaba at all given the risks associated with it and if so what supplier can I get with in the United States that won't charge me an arm and a leg for its products?

What if I buy/source the items from alibaba and make it into my own brand and put a logo on these items, basically private label? Would that be better then just sourcing the item and making it generic??

Is selling wholesale on amazon the better option? Only asking because this seems to be the more straight forward option then anything else?

I would avoid Alibaba for items to sell on Amazon. You really need to buy directly from an authorized distributor or manufacturer and have a letter of authorization to sell the product on Amazon. Amazon periodically asks for invoices when there is any sort of potential issue, and they don't accept anything from Alibaba from what I understand.
