Placement fee - what if i leave one of the shipments not dispatched?

Hello everyone,

The longer I work with Amazon, the more questions I have about FBA fees. My latest concern is regarding the placement fee.

Recently, I need to send a shipment containing 500 identical units. Naturally, Amazon split it into two shipments, one with 452 units and the other with 48 units, resulting in a combined fee of over a hundred dollars.

My question is, can I hold back the shipment of the 48 units and only send the shipment with 452 units? Will Amazon impose any penalties for this? I do hear people get their account disactived for playing tricks on placement fee.

Knowing Amazon, what do you think?

Probably nobody can answer this for sure. But a penalty would be harmless. What's about account suspension for manipulating the system?

Hi @Seller_Fbj6rdG6inQX3,

Thank you reaching out on the Seller Forums! I'm just coming across this thread and your update in the replies and wanted to quickly chime in.

First, I'm happy to see that you were able to get an answer for this specific shipment!

Now for future shipments, I did want to highlight the following FAQ found on the 2024 FBA inbound placement service fee help page:

"What happens if I don't send my inventory to the designated fulfillment centers in the shipping plan or send incomplete shipments (deleted or abandoned shipments)?

Shipments that are sent to a location that is different from the shipment plan (misrouted shipment) or that don’t arrive at our facilities within the timeframe specified per our inbound policies (deleted or abandoned shipment) will incur FBA inbound service fees based on the actual shipments received and inbound locations, which may be higher than the estimated fees at the time of shipment creation.

For instance, if you select the Partial shipment splits inbound placement option to send two shipments to two locations, but only send one of the shipments, you will be charged the higher Minimal shipment splits rate on the items that we received. Additionally, in this example, you may also be charged an inbound defect fee for the shipment that you abandoned. For more information, go to Inbound defect fees.

This page includes examples of how the inbound placement service fee will be charged for non-compliant shipping plans with inbound defects (misrouted or abandoned shipments)."

I hope this helps clarify! If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate reaching out.

All the best,

Jameson
