Product changed from Manufacturer Barcodes to Amazon Barcodes

We've had our product with FBA for 10 years using the Manufacturer barcodes that are on the boxes. It is simply the UPC we assigned to the product. I was able to send product to Amazon using the UPC that is on the package on May 29 this year.

I need to replenish so I went to send more, but I now have an error stating "This product is ineligible for sending to Amazon with a manufacturer barcode. Please remove the product from the shipment, re-create the offer with an Amazon barcode, and label your units." I do not understand what happened. I tried contacting support and they simply said to add the UPC to the listing by "deleting the existing offer and create a new offer, for the same product, using the product ID (EAN / GTIN / UPC)." I did this, but have the same problem.

I could create a new listing but that would mean we would lose the 600+ reviews we have received.

What's odd is when this first occurred, I checked the listing in seller central and saw the UPC on the listing. The following day after contacting support, the UPC was gone and the ASIN took the place of the UPC. Now, when I go to the listing in seller central, all I see is offer. I am unable to make changes to the description, title, bullet points, etc. It seems like something is wrong with the entire listing.

A few other notes:

- We are the brand owner and have registered with brand registry.

- Our other 2 similar products still have the ability to use the manufacturer barcode (UPC) to ship. The UPC still shows up on the actual product listing.

- One issue that support mentioned was that it needed scannable barcodes which have always been on the product. I used my phone to confirm that the UPC was scannable and it in fact was, so that shouldn't be a problem

Has anyone seen a problem like this? Have you gotten it resolved?

Thanks

Why would you do that? Just go to your "Manage Inventory" , on the right side of that ASIN, click the row and choose "print item labels". Then you chose a format, print it on label sheets and stick this FNSKU over your barcode.

Last year, after a removal order for a new product launch that failed, I got back items whose UPC barcodes were stickered over with Amazon barcodes. These are GS-1 purchased barcodes assigned by my company. The Amazon barcodes looked terrible and it also made me wonder why FC staff had done that, but there was no explanation. There are also no guidelines on Amazon for UPC barcode placement, size, or other details. I never sent in any more items for this product, so I don't know if UPC barcodes were deemed ineligible.

@Bryce_Amazonposted about Amazon barcodes yesterday, so he might have some insights.

We went through hell with this and have lost a ton of money.

We have had our own barcode since we started selling. Amazon without notifying us put an Amazon barcode on our products- HOWEVER-they put the wrong barcodes on many of our units. This caused our NCX rate to skyrocked. We then had to do removal order and re-package all of our units. We are still waiting for reimbursements after opening case after case with photos.

All of our shipments are set to use our barcodes. This has been a nightmare.

Going forward we are going to do our own fullfillment as it is getting more and more dificult to work with FBA

I see this happen all the time. Every now and then it occurs to some Amazon error that you have to work through with support. In the majority of cases Amazon has flagged something about your product and they require you to use an Amazon label so that they can separate YOUR product from OTHER sellers selling the same thing (this may or may not be your issue - I don't know if other people are selling your product).

The difference between using the UPC and using an Amazon label is that items using the UPC get mingled with whoever else is selling that same ASIN and it's impossible to tell who sent in what item. When using an Amazon label it identifies the seller and they can pinpoint exactly where a specific item originated. Amazon uses this method when trying to identify counterfeit units and which seller is sending them in (among other reasons).

Unfortunately, if Amazon has flagged your item for some type of investigation then there is nothing you can do; you'll have to apply the labels. You can do it yourself or you can pay Amazon $0.55 per unit to do it for you.

If it's an error you'll have to try and identify what has caused it. Since the warehouse is the one who flags it and seller support tends to be overseas there is no communication between the two and this is going to be an uphill battle all the way. (Just be persistent - I HAVE seen this get fixes, you just need to keep at it).

A note on creating a new listing - this CAN work if it's an Amazon error. Remember that UPCs and ASINs have a 1 to 1 relationship, which means the UPC on your item can never be used to create a new ASIN...you can't have 2 different ASINs with the same UPC. When support says "create a new listing" they are talking about creating a new SKU. Reviews are linked to ASINs, not SKUs, so you wouldn't lose any of your reviews.

Last thought - if Amazon has flagged something and requires you to use an Amazon label this isn't necessarily a permanent change. Once whatever the issue is has cleared you'll be able to switch back to using the UPC label (but expect it to take several months minimum).

Hope that helps!

Is your barcode GS1 issued?

Can you have Amazon relabel (likely not, but have not investigated this myself).

When I had that happen (some small items changed to manufacturer barcode when none are on the packaging and others changed to Amazon barcode when they are on the packaging) I had to relist that same ASIN and during setup select a different barcode.

The FNSKU is different between the two (manufacturer barcodes, the FNSKU and ASIN are the same) so you have to create a duplicate listing with a different FNSKU to resolve the issue.

It will catch that inventory and make it available for sale under the same ASIN

You do not need to create a new product, create a new inventory entry and make this FBA entry stickerless. I was in the same situation and this is what support advised me. Be sure to choose "use manufacturers barcode" I am not sure why this occasionally happens to us also.

You do not need to create a new product, create a new inventory entry and make this FBA entry stickerless. I was in the same situation and this is what support advised me. Be sure to choose "use manufacturers barcode" I am not sure why this occasionally happens to us also.
