Why is FBA cancelling so many customer orders? Hundreds of them in the past 90 days.

When we were mostly FBM, would would get maybe 3-5 cancelled orders per month. But I just looked at the cancelled orders tab in the FBA order section and see that Amazon has cancelled 315 orders in the past 90 days!!

I can't imaging the reason since I would expect FBM to show this same pattern, yet it never did. We generate around 15,000 orders in that same 90 days. So, it's only about 2% of our overall sales, but still it seems excessive.

More likely the buyers canceled them. If you order something prime, you expect it to be here in about 2 days. If nothing comes, you check your order for tracking. Now you see "Expected delivery in 6/8/12/15 days" and you are thinking "Oh heck no, I don't have time for that! And attempt to cancel that order. But then often they don't let you. It will say "too late", but the date for delivery still shows the same and it takes another day or two before there is tracking. You have since reordered the product from someone else, because you do NOT want it in 6/8/12/15 days. When the first order finally arrives, days after the second, you return it. Seller carries all expenses.

Ask me how I know.....

The other scenario is, FBA once again lost track of a shipment between warehouses......

Hi @Seller_ctlHhuYQK8UHO, as mentioned above it's unlikely that all of those were cancelled by Amazon. That said, if your issue persists or you see a spike in your the rate of occurrence you can open a ticket for the team to look info and potentially provide more info.

Do you have any listings that require the buyer to put your item in their cart to see the price? That would account for a lot of buyer cancellations!

We have way more cancelled orders through FBA as opposed to FBM. And our business is split 50/50 between FBA and FBM. And most of the FBM orders that are cancelled are because we were out of inventory, NOT because the customer cancelled. There's a real problem with FBA cancelled orders. As someone else said, the buyer probably cancelled because they were tired of waiting for an order that Amazon accepted when the item was in transit to another warehouse. I imagine most sellers experience the same thing with FBA.

payment not followed through by customer after placing order if card fails to authorize since amazon does not process payments in real time, fbm orders you usually do not see until payment is made complete

This is my experience as a buyer. I have several items I purchase every month that I put on auto order to save a few cents. I usually end up canceling 2 or 3 of those automated orders every cycle for various reasons. I almost never cancel other orders. You have to be FBA to get your items into the automated order program, I believe.

As long as Amazon have a slightest hope that buyer will buy the item will not cancel the order if customer does not cancel it. Strictly speaking for FBA. I have couple months old orders pending and neither Amazon nor the customer cancelled.

Cancelled orders for FBA for exceed cancelled orders FBM. Yet, Amazon is pretty much forcing us in to FBA fulfillment. Amazon is an ostrich, burying its head in the sand and denying the facts.
