Amazon USA Taxes & Opting Out

Hello Everyone,

Needed guidance on 2 points about Amazon Global Selling from India:

1) If we register for Amazon USA Seller account as Indian sellers operating & GST resgistered in India and its a merchant fulfilled model, then who pays any applicables USA taxes? As we understand, Amazon USA calculates any applicable USA taxes and adds it in the invoice, just like we have in India with GST. But unlike India, we understand that Amazon USA "remits it too to the USA tax authorities, on behalf of Indian sellers," even if the sellers are NOT opting for FBA and are shipping directly to the USA customer through their own independent channel (not Amazon third party logistics service providers). Please confirm.

2) At any point in time, if an Amazon Seller ever want to close Amazon USA seller account, does the Amazon India seller account also gets closed? Or we can just close Amazon USA seller account and continue with Amazon India seller account? Or we can close Amazon India seller account and continue with Amazon Seller account? Basically my question is, do all the Amazon stores operate independent of each other or shutting of one means shutting all other stores down as well?

Please guide. I have not been able to gain much clarity on both these issues. So, reaching out here.

Thanks!

Hi,

1) Amazon itself does the tax collection and remittance to relevant authorities, be it FBA or FBM. Just make sure that the export invoice (CSB-V) does not include that tax amount.

2) Not sure about the account closure aspect, but if you do not want to sell in a marketplace, you can set up a permanent holiday setting on it, good way to keep your options open and avoid professional plan subscription charges.

Hope that answers your questions!
